A current topic that interests me, mostly because I don’t quite understand how it works, is
GMOs. The idea that we can help to solve global issues regarding food, with GMO
technology sounds like a great idea. However, I wonder if this technology really works.
Like humans, many livestock get sick and can transfer those diseases to the food we
consume. Farmers are spending money to keep livestock healthy, and I wonder if we can
create GMO food, maybe we can make healthier, cheaper food.“More than 70% of the
antibiotics consumed in the United States annually are fed to livestock. Genetic modification
of feed crops is currently being pursued to permit more efficient use by ruminant animals in
feedlots as well as to produce meat, dairy, and eggs with more desirable nutritional qualities”
(Richard, 2015). If we can produce food that is healthy and affordable then maybe people
can reduce food costs. I don’t know about everyone else but I feel like I am spending more
and more each time I go to the grocery store.
I think when we look at the natural and applied science lenses we are looking at what tools
and technologies are out there to make our lives easier. If we have the capabilities to improve
wellness with ideea like, GMO’s, then why not continue to develop them. IF there is science
and research out there that improve health then we need to continue to research these ideas.
For example, the COVID vaccine, was created to help is combat COVID, so if we can
develop other tools for healthier lives than we can continue to improve overall wellness
