I am really having a hard time with it then I started thinking more about tv. I
think about how tv is a good way that shows cultural expression as it gives
creative freedom to many different shows and types of shows. There is also a
culture within many shows. Some of the most recent shows and past I can
think of are Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, The Simpsons, Cheers,
and MASH. These shows helped change the way we think of TV and brought
people together to talk about the outcomes of the shows. The season finale of
MASH is still one of the most watched shows and something many people
talk about being present for. This cultural phenomenon is something that
takes over who we are as a society. It makes the next show the thing that has
to top the last. MASH led to Cheers which brought the Simpsons, which
brought on new shows. The Walking Dead became an epic only to be topped
by Game of Thrones. I know not everyone loves these shows but we can all
think of a show that we watch out of habit or because we just can't miss it. I
think this leads to wellness in a different way as it is something that gives us
that social connection and the ability to feel a part of something that is just
beyond watching the show. That connection with friends and family over a
show helps us to stay together and brings people together who may not have
ever talked before in the workplace because of the love of the show.(
TV has been something that has brought people together over the course of
history. Sometimes what is being shared is not always the moment we all
remember for good. There are times that it brings us together as a nation, as a
world as we watch something happen that is truly amazing (Neil Armstrong
walking on the Moon) or a sad moment that leaves us all in disbelief (9/11).
While it is not always the wellness we all think about. TV does bring social
wellness to us that allows us to make friends and stay in touch with old
friends because of the love we have for the show.
