1. How has your understanding of wellness been enhanced as a
result of analyzing it through the four lenses? My understanding
of wellness has been enhanced in the way that I now know how
wellness is different for everyone. It's not just about what good
for you, him or her, but instead looking through various lenses
that allow us to each experience wellness differently, and how
our surroundings, influences, and abilities to obtain wellness truly
varies. We're surrounded by different influences each and every
day, and that experience is different for each of usvarying on
our neighborhoods, our circle of friends and family, and what our
communities have to offer.
2. What are the potential implications of current discussions about
wellness for the future? You may consider any future you like,
such as the future of your community or the future of humankind.
I touched on this a few times throughout the course, but working
in the school system, I'm very passionate about childhood
obesity. It's a real thing, and it's heartbreaking to see children not
have access to healthy foods. It's something I think communities
really need to work on. Our schools need to provide better
lunches with healthier options, in addition to local restaurants
and local fast food chains. We need the support of those with the
power to lower prices in grocery stores so people, not just
children, but all people, have an ease of access to healthier foods.
Childhood obesity sends children down a path of an unhealthy
future. I think we're doing better in several areas, but not all.
3. How do you believe the critical analysis skills learned in this
course will support you going forward personally, academically,
and/or professionally? The number one thing that this course has
taught me is that we don't see the world the same. We also don't
experience the same world. We have internal-biases that quite
frankly limit us to making improvements in our community. Being
able to see concepts with a different lens and view allows us to be
able to help each other and be compassionate for other humans.
Our world needs this now more than ever.
