Wellness to keep us being in tune with oneself and having high
emotional intelligence, and knowing how to react to your emotions as
well as having healthy mental health. I also think self-care is imperative
to wellness as you cannot “burn the candle at both ends” forever. And
there are so many different ways someone can perform self-care. This
can impact daily life if you do not keep up with personal wellness and in
turn can affect those within the community.
The article “What is wellness now” reported that wellness has been
defined in the past as “an integrated method of functioning which is
oriented toward maximizing the potential of which the individual is
capable of.” And continues on to state that wellness consists of “self-
responsibility, nutritional awareness, physical fitness, stress
management and environmental sensitivity.” (Kirkland, 2014)
Wellness starts with an individual’s mental health, as studies have
shown stress and depression can have adverse effects and worsen
some illnesses such as cancer and diabetes.
Wellness has a large influence on behavioral and mental health and my
profession strives to ensure emotional intelligence among other things
to help improve mental health wellness.
