Wellness is very important to me, especially mental wellness. I have a history of
mental health issues, which has driven me to help those I can achieve wellness.
In my daily life, I can only hope to be well. But with the previously mentioned
mental health issues, it can be very difficult to achieve mental and physical
wellness. The resources mention that wellness' definition depends largely on
who is creating the definition and their perspective (Kirkland, A. (2014).
The influence of wellness on my course of study is obviously trying to maintain
mental wellness while dealing with obstacles outside of your control. It also
pertains to community/societal wellness, and how to best create a community
that will thrive. In my internship, we work to raise awareness about our Social
Emotional Learning curriculum, Healthy Relationships 101 (The Relationship
Foundation). This foundation is wholeheartedly supportive of wellness in all its
forms, but especially mental wellness. My understanding of wellness can be
used to properly inform those I am working with of ways to help.
