1.Using the resources from this course, identify the key characteristics of each of the four lenses:
social science, natural science, history, and humanities.
Social Science People’s individual and collective actions are examined in a variety of
contexts in the study of social science. Gathering primary data is the basic goal of social science.
In certain cases, social science may not be a trustworthy source of knowledge.
Natural science is concerned with the physical and natural worlds, as opposed to social
science. Researches the behavior of living creatures. Natural science hypotheses are put to the
test again and over again to ensure that the evidence is totally Correct. When it comes to natural
science, there is no disputing the facts. Natural science employs the scientific method, which is
as follows: Observation, investigation, hypothesis testing, experimentation, and conclusion
Studying historical events, diaries, records, and letters helps us understand our privileges in
society. By examining the past, we may find solutions to the difficulties we face today.
When we use History Lens, we can see how the world around us changes through time. The
study of languages, ethics, and the arts from many civilizations throughout the globe are all
included in the Humanities Lens curriculum. It is possible to see our lives through the lens of
humanities to learn about our past and future.
The Humanities Lens assists us in seeing the parallels and distinctions that exist across
civilizations all around the globe.
2.Identify the types of evidence used when looking through each lens.
social science: Observations, scholarly literature, and artifacts are all included. Interviews
Primary sources are used to obtain information via a social science lens. natural science:
Memorabilia ranging from maps to photos to testimonies Uses both primary and secondary
sources to collect knowledge through the Natural Science lens History: Artifacts, societies,
cultures, religions, politics, economics, and so on are all included in this category. Research for
this lens is conducted using both primary and secondary sources. Humanities Lens: Biographies,
books, diaries, and letters are all examples of primary source material.
Similarities:
Humanities and social science are concerned with human dimensions, such as politics, law,
economics, and psychology, among other things.
Both natural and social science acquire facts in order to better understand the world in which we
live. Both natural and social science use theories, hypotheses, and tests in order to better
comprehend our reality. Both natural and social science provide answers to old questions that
allow us to formulate new ones. All four of them are interested in the variances and similarities
that exist in human civilization.Differences.
Both the humanities and the social sciences are based on critical thinking. There aren’t many
distinctions between history and the humanities. Both are interested in the evolution of human
civilization. While natural science studies the natural world, social science studies how people
interact with one other. What I’ve learned thus far about voting rights. I have learned that they
are set rules to be able to register to vote and it’s a privilege earned and not handed out. What I
want to know more about voting rights is how to get updated on what is on a ballot so I can see
which one I would like to vote on instead of getting to the polling place and trying to figure it out
at the last minute. There is so much more to voting rights then I realized and hope to be able to
understand most of it cause sometimes it can be heard to follow and interpret.
