The relevance of the humanities is significant and genuinely priceless.
Humanities connect us with other cultures and eras in history. b Humanities help
to give us a different perspective and look at things from outside the box.
Thinking creatively, which is a result of humanities, is a powerful tool in your
career. Objectivity and empathy are critical skills in the workplace, and the
humanities help teaches us both. I believe the perspective of the humanities
can have a positive impact on my future professional career because this
teaches me how to understand humans better. Humanities study aspects of
human society and culture, and there are many different cultures and humans
with different personalities and more. No one person is the same, and through
understanding humanities, and applying this to my everyday life, I will
understand each individual better. Understanding people is wants and needs,
and who they truly are is valuable. A person will want to interact with someone
who understands them more than someone who does not. People love feeling
seen and heard, and the perspective of humanities truly helps with that.
Humanities and the values that the subject area teaches to students are of
relevance in a way that these can be applied to practical situations and the
workplace environment. Whether it is the business arena or any other
corporate workplace environment, humanities can be applied to enhance the
operations and outlook of an organization. For every organization, the fulcrum
of operational excellence is its manpower. Even with the use of technology,
organizations will still need manpower or humans (Hammarfelt, 2014). Human
resource management in any sphere of the corporate world needs the use of
humanities principles. Apart from human resource management, there are
other areas where humanities can come into the application. In the current
scenario, business and work are all about building relations and capitalizing on
them as a network. In this case, humanities and values of the subject always
have a scope of application.
Today, any work environment is a global and multicultural melting pot of skills
and capabilities. A person from one part of the world may collaborate with a
person from a completely opposite part of the world (Hammarfelt, 2014). In
such cases, a professional with a strong knowledge of different cultures and
languages can create a fruitful, long-standing professional relationship with
other professionals. Today, when all of us are working through a remote
professional ecosystem, the use of humanities skills like language, cultural
knowledge, and history can help us create better connections and establish
teamwork.
The use of humanities, its values and principles can be used in creating an equal
and inclusive environment at work. At a time where minor and major
communities are coming at an equal pace with representation, humanities help
us respect the need for representation and create an inclusive workspace for
people (Hammarfelt, 2014). A deep understanding of humanities helps us
remain in the know of equality and human rights, which helps create a
respectful and productive workspace for diverse individuals.
The humanities also help inculcate the value of empathy which is very
necessary when dealing with human resources and different situations.
Empathy can be exercised in many professional situations to promote a healthy
and productive workplace for all employees. Empathy not only allows us the
room to understand our colleague's perspective and broadens ours but also
helps us understand the customer mindset so that our organization can better
serve the end-users. The exercise of empathy improves not only operations but
sales and bottom-line figures. The principles of humanities help in the critical
evaluation of a situation from a humane point of view to assess the real-time
effect of any decision on people associated with the situation. The use of
humanities and its values helps improve the decision-making process of an
organization.
