operations,etc.Forexample,in1980,theCDClistedcardiovascular
diseaseasthenumberonecauseofdeathintheUnitedStates.In
2018(30yearslater),cardiovasculardiseaseisstilllistedasthe
numberonecauseofdeath(CDC,2019).Cardiovasculardiseaseis
largelyintertwinedwithpoorlifestylechoices,whichcanincludean
unhealthydiet,smoking,lackofexercise,etc.Evenwithallthe
knowledgethat’sbeenacquiredsince1980,individualsstillchoose
tolivecarefreelifestylesanddealwiththeconsequenceslater.This
ismainlyattributedtothefactthatpatientshaveagreatdealoffaith
intheprogressthat’stakenplacewithinthemedicalfieldoverthe
past20yearsandbelievethatthereisamedicine,treatmentplan,or
surgicaloperationthatcancurealmostanyailment.
AccordingtotheCDC(2019),obesityanddiabetesrateshave
significantlyincreasedfrom1994-2014,inboththeU.S.pediatric
populationaswellastheadultpopulation.Despitealltheknowledge
that’sbeengainedsince1994,theU.S.populationhasnofearofthe
consequencesofobesitybecausetheybelieveweightlosssurgery
