Ultimately, strategic planning enables a corporation to take charge of
its vision and realize anticipated outcomes. This shows how important
it is for project managers, who are responsible for the success or failure
of a project and for making sure an organization works at its best
(Mohanlal, 2022). The project manager (PM) is like the ringmaster of a
circus, ensuring that everything runs smoothly and on time. This
position, more than any other, serves as a link between planning and
implementation. This individual develops the comprehensive project
plan and delegates responsibilities to team members. They are also
accountable for developing a RACI matrix (responsibility assignment
matrix) or similar framework to define roles and assign relative
importance to certain tasks.
The project manager is responsible for creating the metrics that will be
used to monitor the project's success and, in particular, the key
performance indicators that will be used to calculate the return on
investment (ROI), which is essential for securing funding from upper
management. The PM is also responsible for managing the project's
finances and providing updates on whether or not expenditure is on
track. The PM's main responsibilities include risk management and, if
necessary, problem escalation to the company's top brass. The RAG
(red, amber and green) status of a project is also often decided by this
individual. A project is considered strategic if it is designed to drive the
implementation of a strategy. If the project is carried out effectively, it
will bring the Gateway Healthcare System one step closer to achieving
its objectives.
The following steps may help project managers through the process of
developing the best possible strategic plan.
• Learn about your company's purpose and goals and determine
your strategic position.
• Make a list of the objectives and rank them in order of
importance. Assess resources and capabilities
• Create future forecasts
• Maintain and monitor the execution of your plan, select a way for
meeting company goals
• Review and assess the strategy, make certain that the plan
develops
