Cultural diversity within the Gateway Healthcare Systems needs
improvement in a lot of different areas. Improving cultural diversity
within the workplace is a necessity especially in today's jobs. Hickman
being the smallest hospital with the lowest level of cultural diversity,
then St. Luke being a bit better, and St. Catherine being first among
the three for better culturally diverse. Making others of different
ethnicities feel comfortable in the workplace is beneficial in making
all employees positive on the job.
Cultural diversity education plan consists of:
• Mandatory training on diversity every month with all new hires
and veterans.
• Have all employees spend time with another one of different
religion and learn about their way of life.
• Have an education class teaching weekly on diversity.
• Hiring managers need to take courses on being culturally
diverse during their hiring process.
The purpose of a staff that's diverse helps with the work
environment. Having classes on diversity with information such as
different religions, sexual orientation, and ethnicities, it helps those to
understand others and not judge a book by its cover. Improving the
overall quality of the work environment with patients as well as staff.
