Living in a multi-cultural society brings different ethnic backgrounds
together. Whether you are traveling, in school, and/or working. You
will have to interact with different cultures. But Cultural diversity
isn’t just limited to race or Ethnicity. It can also be Religion, Sexual
orientation, and or if someone has a physical or mental disability.
Healthcare is a very diverse industry. Community healthcare is what
the gateway healthcare system will represent and with communities
growing awareness becomes essential. Knowing the community,
you’re serving as well as the individuals that you will be working side
by side with is very important. Establishing a diversity workshop
would be how I would address this issue. Having workshops would
allow interactions between one another discussions, conversations
even. It was knowing boundaries between what is excepted and not
excepted. Understanding cultural differences. This would be a
quarterly workshop mandatory for all staff members and would be
attended by a mixed level of staff no matter the rank or position you
hold. This would help in communication among different staff
members within different departments. Within the training, there
would be real-life work scenarios acted out by staff members and
would receive real-time feedback.
Workplace diversity training is a must for diverse organizations. Not
only will it bring about workplace inclusion, but it is beneficial for
your organization’s growth. Diversity training focuses on the
introduction of the uniqueness of each employee, teaches them how
to understand and accept one another, and leads them on ways how
to fruitfully work together on a common goal. Diversity training also
leads to workplace inclusion, in which individuals are treated
respectfully and equally. Individuals are given equal opportunities in
the workplace space and resources and can contribute equally to the
organization’s ascendancy (Man, n.d.).
The Workshop would include the following:
• Respect training
• Unconscious bias training.
• Cultural competency training.
• Civility training.
• Sensitivity training.
• creating an inclusive workspace training.
• Preventing Discrimination and Harassment training
With the merging of the 3 healthcare organizations into one Gateway
healthcare system. They would have to be one mission and vision
established especially when it comes to Cultural Diversity. With the
differences in culture in those facilities, this would have to be a top
priority. By having an understanding and awareness of these
differences and allowing yourself to grow. Would allow the
organization to be recognized as a great place to start and build your
career as well as a great place for career advancement.
