The staff of St. Catherine’s Medical Centre has a linguistically as well
as ethnically diverse staff. However, about 60 percent of the staff
members of the healthcare organization are catholic. St. Luke’s
hospital has a less diverse staff. The diversity that exists in the
hospital is mainly in terms of age. The staff members of the Hickman
Community Hospital belong to one ethnicity. It lacks the required
cultural diversity. Based on analysis, it has been found that it is
important to provide training to the staff members relating to cultural
diversity. So, a cultural diversity education plan has been developed.
The core objective of the education plan is to help the staff members
of the hospitals to understand the need for cultural diversity. It also
aims at ensuring better collaboration among the staff members and
ultimately increasing the productivity of the healthcare organizations.
The training program will be delivered to the staff of the hospitals in
the form of a presentation. Written materials will also be provided at
the end of the training.
The education plan will first focus on enabling the staff of the
hospital to understand the meaning of cultural diversity. It refers to
the co-existence of individuals with diverse knowledge, languages,
values, beliefs, customs, as well as abilities and disabilities (Lin, 2020).
The cultural diversity education plan will then go on to show the
many benefits of cultural diversity in an organization. One of the
most significant benefits of cultural diversity is an increase in creative
solutions (Green et al., 2015). As individuals come from diverse
cultural backgrounds, they can bring in new ideas and perspectives
relating to a single case. The availability of more ideas will enable
healthcare organizations to choose the best solution relating to a
problem and enhance the quality of care delivered to the patients.
Another significant benefit is that cultural diversity can help in
increasing the productivity of the overall organization. The education
plan will also educate the staff relating to the difference in behavior,
communication style, and cultural norms of the culturally diverse
individuals. It will help in overcoming any kind of bias or stereotypes
among the hospital staff.
The cultural diversity education plan will finally include an interactive
session. It will allow the new staff members to interact with each
other and get to know about each other’s culture. Finally, a message
will be conveyed to the staff that the organization supports cultural
diversity and provides equitable treatment to all its staff.
