Evaluate:
The three organizations' goals and missions have some things in common but others differ.
Their mission statements consist of information about what each healthcare organization strives
to provide patients with patient’s health information services this includes access to and
protection of their health information and also provides accuracy and timeliness.
Two of the hospitals have similar vision statements: They strive to give patients security and
dignity. These two hospitals are St. Catherine’s Medical Center and Hickman Community
Hospital. The other hospital St. Luke’s Hospital has a more limited vision leaning more towards
research with management and technology. All three organizations strive to provide high-quality
services, preserving health information.11
Mission Statements:
The mission statement for the HIM department at Gateway Healthcare Systems should be a
commitment to the accuracy of patient privacy, and the effective management of health
information to improve the quality of patient care. A mission statement could be: "To guarantee
the correctness, security, and availability of health information so that healthcare providers can
give high-quality patient care through the application of creative ideas and cooperation." This
mission statement is needed because it highlights the significance of accuracy and confidentiality
– two major aspects of health information management that I have learned about in my classes
and from practice. While working on a project on health data management, I saw that incorrect
management of the patient’s information can have severe implications including, violation of
patient’s rights, legal consequences, and many other issues. This highlights the importance of a

mission that focuses not only on the technical aspects of health information but also on the
ethical aspects of patient care.
Vision Assessment:
A vision statement for the HIM department could be: "To be the leader in health information
management, we will ensure that data is accurate, protected, and easily available to the
healthcare professionals who need it to give your patients the best possible care." This statement
focuses not only on data management but also on patient care and innovation which I believe are
important, especially in the present healthcare environment. Based on my knowledge of
healthcare systems, effective HIM practices are essential for the performance of operations and
the production of good patient results. The correct and easily retrievable information is very vital
in clinical practice and for the safety of the patient. The rate of development of technology in the
healthcare sector also means that the HIM departments must evolve and change often. This is
because more and more attention is paid to the aspects of data analysis and sharing between
different healthcare organizations.
