The article I found on mobile health information technology is about digital technology during
COVID-19 for older adults. The shutdown was very hard on the community. There was a need
for health solutions that were digitized. The authors showed concern for the more aging
population that their doctors could not monitor due to the forced closures. I remember that
providers were discouraging people from not coming to the office unless it was an emergency.
Most the routine visits were canceled. The elderly took a significant hit since they require
more monitoring than younger people. It was realized that the isolation from social distancing
and being under quarantine affected mental health and susceptibility to psychosocial issues.
There were studies done that showed the need for Information and Communication
Technology (ICT). According to the article, WHO created the Global Observatory for e-
Health (GOH) to help integrate e-Health with health systems (Ammar et al., 2021). The
technology to be integrated is data dashboards, digital thermometers, migration maps, medical
image analysis, thermal cameras, and wearable technology. It appears a lot of personal data
would be used, and it is important to protect the users' privacy. A compromise could be a
cyber-attack and medical identity theft. A data quality monitoring plan would benefit a
program such as this. The creators of this application should have a team of people monitoring
the security of who is using the technology and watch for breaches to occur. I see how a
program like this could be beneficial for the users and the community, but if it is not closely
monitored, it could present ethical and legal risks to the company and its users.
The first article I read was based on Apple's I Health app that is available on the iPhone and
iPad. It summarizes the various features available and how Apple uses the information. It
states that is in unclear if Apple is HIPAA compliant based on the fact it is undetermined if
they are considered business associates or not because technically, they are not accessing your
health record. Apple concludes it does not store any PHI it only allows for the information to
be retrieved from the medical provider and that if you choose to store your information on the
iCloud that information is encrypted (HIPAA Compliance, Is Apple Compliant, or Are They
Avoiding Their Ethical Responsibilities? | Jhbl, n.d.). This seems very sketchy to me, and
makes me glad I do not use that app at all!
The second article I read was about a Tricare data breach that happened a few years ago. In the
breach the backup tapes were stolen from an employee’s car. In my opinion an employee
should not have been able to transport the tapes in a manner that had them leaving the tapes in
the car. As a VA employee I have laptop that I use to access PHI all the time and I do not leave
it in the car ever. I am also lock it in the hotel room safe if I am not in my room. Another way
this could have been prevented was to have the tapes encrypted. The article said the judge
dismissed the class action lawsuit, but it is my opinion that privacy was violated in this
instance and that employee did not adhere to the code of ethics as they did not do everything to
protect the data. This breach however justifies the use of cloud-based storage versus physical
backups!
Were there any limitations for improper discourse of health information? e
From my understanding of the improper discourse of health information. That there are laws
in both federal and state laws that says it is against the law to disclose any patient's information
with the consent of the patient. This falls under the HIPAA laws that is a rule of laws for all
who take care of patients and those that do the coding of those patient's information.
How was the patient compromised? What was the outcome?
One such thing did happen when I work as an outpatient records clerk, at a facility of which I
cannot remember. It was said that the patient information was taken by someone who did not
know that patient and the person got both fined and in jail for an amount of time as for who did
it was not disclosed at that time, but we all were required to retake the HIPAA tests and it
would not let us pass it until we got the questions answered right.
Did the HIM practitioners adhere to the AHIMA code of ethics?
To this date I did not know if we had HIM practitioners for, I was not aware of anybody
watching these doctors.
How can the use of technological tools such as audit trails prevent security breaches?
By having training all employees take safety class on how to prevent such things as to know
how to understand what was done as to keep patients' information from leaking out by
anyways that it can be done by, leaving you PC on, cyber-attacks, lose lips from a co-worker,
not following the proper way of keeping a patient right to privacy of their information.
As for me I saw a lot of patients' information that would make your head swim, and to this date
I have not any of that information leak out from me.
My first article regarding mobile health technology, will address the growing need for this
technology. This has become a growing need in health since the pandemic begin. Protecting
patients and the PHI has been both a top priority. But with having to satisfy he growing
demand for healthcare mobile technology, you also had to make sure that PHI is secure and
protected. e
What is mobile health technology?
Mobile health technology, or mHealth, is a rapidly developing factor in health care today,
promising to make health care better and more efficient. According to a recent survey, 83
percent of physicians in the U.S. already use mobile health technology or mHealth to provide
patient care.
How To Prevent a Data Breach in Your Company,
data breach is the movement of secure or private information into an untrusted environment. It
could be intentional or unintentional. It could be a for-profit hacker or an employee doing the
leaking. It could be the release of hospital records, credit card information or just some
internal company emails.
