the healthcare industry with no experience at all but I am looking
forward to the challenge. My expectation by the end of this course is
to be well vested in the legal and ethical matters pertaining to the
healthcare industry.
In the healthcare system, there are legal and ethical requirements for
all professional to follow and understand, this is because it is relevant
to observe these laws for the benefit of the patients.
One law that every healthcare providers is supposed to adhere to is
the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996
(HIPAA) compliant rules which is a put in place to safeguard protected
health information (PHI) by ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and
availability of all electronic PHI. Healthcare providers should follow
this rule to detect and safeguard against anticipated threats to the
security of the information, protect against anticipated impermissible
uses of disclosures and certify compliance by their workforce. There
is also the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical
Health Act (HITECH) is a defined section of ARRA that deals
exclusively with health information communication and technology.
The relevance of these laws are to ensure quality of care is provided
for patients as it offers protection to patient information and in the
order hand helping to protect the organization from any legal
ramifications such as financial loss, loss of license and a possible jail
time.
