With the revision from ICD-10 to ICD-11 comes much needed
enhancements. ICD-11 is completely electronic. There is an increase
of meaningful clinical content. It is available for online and offline use
and has become more user friendly with functionality to improve
accuracy. All rare disease is listed and functionality pre and post
intervention can be monitored. The multi-lingual support and built-in
user guide will be beneficial to a country looking to adopt it. ICD-11
also has cluster coding which allows two or more ICD-11 codes to be
combined in order to describe a clinical concept (AAPC 2021). All of
these improvements allow worldwide inclusivity by breaking down
language and clinical terminology barriers.
