Change management is something that is ever changing especially in
healthcare. HIM professional must work with stakeholders to
implement new information systems (IS) in order to stay current with
modern technology. Communicating the goals and objectives of the
HIE would be a start in addressing resistance among certain
stakeholders.
Your organization should evaluate to accurately identify the root
cause of the dissatisfaction with the existing platform (HITRC, 2013).
Some change management strategies that I would suggest are
creating a climate for change and a vision of the Future State to
decide what must be revamped within the system. Having good
communication skills is a start to initiating plans of the HIE system,
and gaining feedback can aid in satisfaction among the stakeholders.
This will ensure that all team members have a clear understanding of
risks and have the knowledge to address them if needed. Also having
an action plan in place will guide stakeholders to comprehend the
sense of urgency to implement the HIE. Key leaders will be identified
to assist in the initiative and to help staff fully understand why the
system needs to be designed. These are some strategies that will
support change management in creating a new HIE.
Stakeholders such as vendors, physicians, HIM professionals, private
companies, and staff members will be involved in the process of the
information governance initiative. All staff in the practice must be
involved in assessing policies, procedures, and workflow (HITRC,
2013). The quality of patient care will be enhanced if all members
cooperate in the implementation of the HIE.
