A business administration degree is among the most popular degree in the United States.
If you are looking to kick off on a new career or just make headway in the career you have got, a
business administration degree can aid support in the business world. There are arguable sides to
issues with obtaining a business administration degree.
The first issue that is related to my degree of choice is that the jobs offered to a business
administration graduates usually do not pay well. Many argue that a general business
administration degree is useless when it comes to your paycheck unless you specialize in a
business major. Most business administration graduates will need to specialize in a filed like
accounting, finance, operations, marketing, supply chain management, or human resources.
With just having a business administration degree is very board, like teaching you to be the jack-
of-all trade and a master at nothing graduate. Others argue that having a business administration
degree often help skipping the lower paying jobs like a clerk or receptionist and offer higher
paying management positions. Jobs that are offered to a newly business administration graduate
can be a sales manager position, marketing manager, business analyst, financial analyst, and an
account manager. In 2017, an undergraduate with an associate degree earned an average of
$6,864 more annually than those with only a high school diploma, according to the Bureau of
Labor Statistics (BLS).1 This relates to my degree of choice because the whole reason of me
going back to school is to have a better future for my family and not have to stress over money.
The second issue that is related to my degree of choice is that it is difficult to find a job
with a business administration degree. Some argue that this degree preps students for non -profit
organizations, small businesses, corporations, and lead to opening their own companies. The
studies that the student learns while taking the courses that are required to obtain the degree,
allow them to expand that knowledge in any size business or even their own business. While
others argue that having experience while also having a business administration degree is easier
to get a job versus just having the degree. Showing that you have experience in a field as well as
a degree in business administration proves to the employer that you have invested your time, in
obtaining a degree and procuring knowledge from previous employers. The chances of getting
hired with experience and a degree is higher than just graduating with a degree and having no
experience in the field. This relates to my degree as I want to make sure to not waste my time
going to school to obtain a business administration degree.
I have chosen my first issue on jobs offered to business administration graduates do not
pay well. I would have to argue that obtaining a degree in business administration can help you
skip the lower paying jobs and help get a manager’s position. I feel that this issue would relate
to first year undergraduate college students trying to obtain their business administration degree.
For my second topic, it is hard to find a job with just a business administration degree, I would
have to argue that I think having experience and a degree will help find a job in a particular field

of business. I feel the audience on this issue would be people that are currently employed in a
career path they have chosen that want to move up the ladder.
