Unemployment Purpose
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate declined to 3.6% in
March, reduced by 0.2%. The statistics showed that the number of unemployed persons declined
to 6.0 million from 6,318,000 by March 22, 2022. According to Butslag Jobs (n.p), the data
among the major worker groups interpret adult women's unemployment to declining by 3.3%,
adult men declining by 3.4%, and teenagers declining by 10.0%. In addition, the data breaks
down the unemployment rate among ethnic groups where the jobless rate in Whites declined by
3.25%, Asians declined by 2.8%, Blacks declined by 6.2%, and the rate of jobless among
Hispanics dropped by 4.2%.
The leading sectors in absorbing new workers include professional and business service,
leisure and hospitality, manufacturing, and retail, reducing the number of unemployed persons.
The above conclusion was based on a two-month survey conducted on the households measuring
labor force status, including unemployment by demographic characteristics. The decline in the
unemployment rate has been contributed by a decrease in the number of temporary and
permanent job layoffs.
Unemployment insurance refers to state-provided insurance that covers payments to
individuals when they lose their job and meet certain eligibility requirements. The payments are
usually disbursed weekly to the beneficiaries. According to Vroman & Kuehn (n.p), in March 20,

2020, The Covid-19 Relief Bill was adopted to improve access to unemployment insurance by
making some changes to the unemployment insurance policies. The changes adopted to improve
access to unemployment insurance included waiving a one-week waiting period, waiving the
work search requirement, waiving charges related to COVID-19 benefit payments, and making
financing of the payments a general responsibility of the entire employer community.
