In h my profession, h data h analysis h is h generally not a
hands-on h activity; we h tend to h use h data analytics h
performed by h others, inside and h outside of h the
organization, to inform h our h work. h My h taking h this h
course is h a h big h part h of how h I h am preparing--I h need h
to h be literate h about not h just h data, but h data analytics
h methods. I need h to be h able h to h ask h my partners h
good h questions h and be h able to judge h whether h their h
methods h are h sound h and h whether h the findings they
present h make h sense.
People h who h don't h have h the h skills h and knowledge h to
at h least h understand data analysis h cannot h afford h to h
continue h on without h doing something to build h their h
knowledge h because h data h analysis is h a vital h input to
all industries, h from h retail to medical h research h to h
automotive h engineering. Data analytics has been h (and h
will h probably continue h to h be, h for a while), a business
h advantage. Those h who h understand the h value h of h data h
and h know how h to h exploit h it, h get ahead. h Amazon h is h
a great h example of this.
As h we h have h learned over and h over in this course, h
the best projects h start with strong questions or h
problems h in h mind. h This h is why managers h and h business
leaders must understand h business analytics. h Even h if h
they do h not have to do h the h analysis, h they h have h to h
decide what problem h to h solve or h question to h answer--
that h is literally h their h job. Secondly, h leaders h have h to h
decide how h to h use h the insights h that result from
analysis. If they h don't h understand h the method, h they h
won't h really h understand the h output, its h values, h or h its h
limitations. h
