The whole essence of learning data analytical skills and approaches is to be
able to solve problems using data, provide solutions to ambiguous issues, and
base all business decisions on facts and evidence from data. The available data
set holds answers to any problem we want to solve, or clients may have. The
approach that will aid the selection of a project is one that will define a problem
to be solved (Frame the problem), collect sample data, explore data, modify the
data, manipulate the data, and analyze data.
Frame the Problem: During this period, we try to ask about the problems that
we or our client are facing. We will make it concise enough to specifically
respond to the issue. For example, if users are cancelling their subscription,
students dropping out from classes, citizens getting infected with strange
diseases, patients reacting to a medication, or a product suddenly becomes the
preferred customer’s choice, management may study any of these issues to
understand more about it. In framing the problem, a question may be asked to
understand the factors contributing to the student churn rate.
Data Collection: This is vital for any study. Sample data can be collected or
pulled from the database. The process of data collection will be supervised by
the researcher to ensure that the sample is a true record of the population. For
example, a data set from China is irrelevant to a study in the United States of
America, even when dealing with the same topic sentence.
Data Cleaning: Having collected data, we explore to understand and clean the
data from every biasness. During this process, missing values and outliers will
be taken care of.
Data Modification: In most cases, data collected are in the raw state. Some
modifications can help bring data in the form it will be used for analysis.
Data Manipulation: For a better understanding of these data, we can
manipulate them to have different visualizations
Analysis: We develop and train models using these data. If the model is
adopted, we can use it to make predictions.
