I completely agree with the author’s assertions regarding seasonal
employees and the cybersecurity risks in the workplace. One of
the hardest parts of running a business is human error concerning
accounts creation and management. Operator error surrounding
the mishandling of those seasonal accounts if not created with
the correct accesses. During my time in the Navy one of the
greatest adversaries to our cyber security was new people and
new accounts.
Managers in our industry, much like any other, can take the time
to adequately train our employees for the influx of 700,000
seasonal employees that are expected. Once we have hired
people that can manage the accounts and personnel. The next
thing to do is to properly do our research on those seasonal
employees to make sure they live up to the standards of our
companies or those we manage. Background checks will be
needed for those employees as well as preparing to train those
people.
The best thing any person in leadership can do is make sure they
remain aware of changes to cyber security standards and best
practices. Risk cannot be avoided but it can be mitigated. The
more we come to terms with the risks each employee will bring
the more prepared we’ll be to support our own cybersecurity
measures.
