CHE 320 Perspectives in Aging2-2 Journal: Compare/Contrast Primary Concerns
My physiological wellness is an important issue that affects both myself and the elderly
population. My family has a history of heart disease and high blood pressure, and these
conditions are also a problem among the elderly population, which has always worried me. My
knees and hips are another area of health concern for me that is related to the aging population. I
was born jackknifed, which placed a lot of strain on my hips, and I played soccer for 14 years,
which ultimately probably made things worse. In order to monitor everything and maintain my
health, I make sure to schedule yearly appointments with my healthcare practitioner.
Generally, I try to take care of myself, and I have tremendous confidence that, although my day
and time will come, death won't be the end of the world because I'll go to Heaven—a belief I'm
sure many people share, especially as they age. If I were to get high blood pressure or a cardiac
problem as I get older, I believe my health worries would alter. It may also alter if, as I get older,
my joints start to suffer. I now have a healthy heart, normal blood pressure, and just very
minimal joint pain in my hips and knees, which my physicians anticipated right away. As I
become older, I don't even think my attitude about death will alter; in fact, as my time "gets
closer," I could grow more steadfast in my faith.
