There are a few things that I have done to change a certain behavior. I
think the most notable and life changing behavior change was
changing my relationship with alcohol. A few years ago, I had
developed bad habit of using alcohol as a coping mechanism for
stress. This was something that I was aware of becoming a problem
because of my family history with alcoholism. I believe knowing that I
was more prone to alcoholism is what allowed me to catch myself
earlier and determine boundaries that I needed to had in regards to
alcoholism. I started this by cutting out alcohol completely to unfold
the unhealthy habits that had happened along the way. After about 6
months of figuring out what my boundaries were, I reintroduced
alcohol but with limitations. I now only allow myself to drink on
special occasions and I never allow it to be used when I am feeling
stressed or sad or upset. It truly has changed how I consume alcohol
and how I cope with stress. I replaced those unhealthy coping
mechanisms with healthy ones such as exercise and meditation.
