Substance Abuse focusing on Alcoholism. One
intervention/prevention strategy is having adequate training for bars
and restaurants that serve alcohol. b “Responsible beverage service
(RBS) training programs are designed for people who own, manage,
or work in establishments that serve alcohol. Programs provide
information and teach participants how to serve alcohol responsibly
and fulfill the legal requirements of alcohol service.” (Guide to
Community Preventive Services, 2021). This will prevent the over
serving to customers, also knowing the signs to look for.
Another intervention/prevention task that can help with alcoholism
is to limit the number of alcohol serving bars or restaurants in a
certain area. “The Community Preventive Services Task Force
(CPSTF) recommends the use of regulatory authority (e.g., through
licensing and zoning) to limit alcohol outlet density as a strategy to
reduce excessive alcohol consumption and related harms.” (Guide to
Community Preventive Services, 2021). I found this very interesting
because I didn’t know that by something as changing where
restaurants and bars are located, it can help with alcoholism.
