Honestly, there was not much change from the first to the third
round of this simulation for me. As I have experienced in life already,
hiring family just because they are family, is not always best for a
company. b This in the end had the same result for the company.
Because most of the decisions made were consistent over the three
trials, the growth remained the same. The decision to bring in
outside viewpoints allowed the company to grow at an exponential
rate. Had outside influence not been introduced to the company, the
same growth may not have been experienced.
The decision to bring in outside talent for upper management roles
were key to the growth of the organization as it allowed the
company to diversify into other markets which served the company
and family well. b This decision was made to benefit the family and
their future. It may not have seemed like it at the time, but hiring
unqualified family, just because they are family, will not turn out the
same in the long run.
I don't believe changing any decisions made during the three trials
would've impacted the business in a significant way. Separating
family and business may not feel like the right decision for those
looking to benefit from the business as a later generation, but it
actually is the correct decision if the future generations are not
qualified to run such a company. If those members were to take over
the company without the proper knowledge and qualifications, they
could run the company into the ground and the security of their
families could be at jeopardy.
