Regulations are a necessity for running businesses. However, I do
think some are too much. Labor abuse, environmental damage and
consumers being taken advantage of are all consequences of not
having effective business regulations. Without these rules in place,
businesses can do whatever they want--they could defraud
customers with false advertising, they could create a monopoly and
raise prices however high they'd like, they can overwork and
underpay employees amongst many other issues. I feel like most
people would agree taxes are getting out of hand, but I can't
necessarily say I agree it is for businesses. Typically, although they do
pay large total sums of taxes, they do not pay enough percentage
wise in my opinion. They constantly get tax breaks as well. Taxes in
our country are a must-have to keep things going such as our road
infrastructure, police, firemen, etc. Negative effects of excessive
rules and regulations are added costs to both the businesses and
consumers as the expenses get passed down. Again, they do protect
our consumers and environment and typically are needed. Another
set of regulations we have are for smaller businesses. Divisions such
as the small business administration contain a lot of helpful resources
for new and upcoming businesses such as small business loans,
grants and training. Government regulations also issue patents,
trademarks and copyrights which protect both businesses and
inventors. I agree that support is great to have available but there
needs to be a limit. Bailing out large companies that have failed is not
a necessity. They can file for bankruptcy and start over or close
down just as any small business or person would have to do. Overall,
I think most regulations are great and helpful but taxes should be
lowered which would limit the resources available. Most influential
to me is bailing out large companies. That should not be a thing the
government does. Labor laws, environmental protections, etc are all
useful and should continue.
