The respiratory system is divided into two parts: the upper respiratory system, which is located
outside of the chest cavity, and the lower respiratory system, which is located within the chest
and upper abdomen and is also known as the thoracic cavity. The nose is a structure on the face
with important anatomical features. It is composed of cartilage, bone, muscles, and skin and is
one of the key suppliers of oxygen for breathing. The nose is placed in the middle of the face.
Nasal cavity - Situated within the nose, the sticky lining catches dust particles, which are then
moved to the nose by small hairs called cilia and sneezed or blown out. The oral cavity is
sometimes referred to as the mouth. It is the second source of oxygen intake and enables for
more oxygen to be taken in. Esophagus are concave spaces in the skull between the bones that
assist control the temperature and humidity of the air that is breathed. The sinuses are placed to
the side of the nose. Pharynx - a muscular tube that connects the mouth and nose to the trachea
