The policy that the restaurant has in place of the servers not destroying any
customer checks is a good control system as it will help management to track the accuracy
of transactions and minimizes the risk of unaccounted cash receipts. It is also a good idea
that no checks are destroyed and instead voided, as a missing check could mean that a
customer did not pay for their meal. Keeping track of the mistaken customer checks helps
the restaurant to control cash receipts and reduce the probability of company losses. Also,
with the checks being numbered, each employee has a sequence of numbers which makes
it easy to identify which employee is responsible for the customer.
An alternate way to control cash receipts in the restaurants would be to implement
a POS, point of sale, which enables the customers to pay directly to the machine for the
services received. Modern POS systems are able to track payments, inventory, receipts,
customer and sales data and could also help a company in managing their employees
(Restaurant Pos System, 2020).
