An accountant were to just focus on the financial information, the
organization and the accountant would suffer. Speaking from
experience, if in my position we left our information specialists to
design and produce our managerial reports, the information wouldn't
come across correctly. Our information specialists within the city do
not understand the financial information at all. We have to create
very complex spreadsheets with all the information that we have, and
if we were to leave that up to another department to handle, the
possibility for error is very high. Also, by not utilizing the same
information and software that the accountants are using, there would
be a larger cost to produce the company overall as well. The
accountants are professionals at retrieving, handling, storing,
analyzing, and reporting the company data. The information that
would be required for top management reports would be better
organized with the assistance of accountants in the design,
development, and formatting. The accountant would be better
equipped to answer questions on how data was analyzed or acquired
to end with the results that it did. Also the data from performance
measures, for example as customer loyalty or employee satisfaction,
can be handled almost the same way as the financial data.
