a a Confidentiality is the duty of protecting privileged information and responsibly sharing
entrusted information. Offshoring is when a company decides to move some or all of its
business operations to another country. a By doing so, the company is able to lower costs and
also improve profits. a Offshore outsourcing involves a third party located overseas taking
over a certain aspect of a business’ operation.
The pros of offshore outsourcing are cost savings, access to specialized expertise,
round-the-clock uptime, and improved focus on core business tasks. Offshore outsourcing of
various information system functions also poses several risks such as less control over
operations, logistical challenges, public image concerns, and payroll and tax complications
(Newsome, 2021).
The principles of confidentiality and privacy are always at risk when it comes to
offshore outsourcing. Data privacy risks, the complexity of managing these risks, and
monitoring security breaches at offshore locations are some of the risks that can be
challenging to detect and monitor. An organization’s duty to protect the privacy of its
customers’ personal information is to ensure that the overseas entities are contractually tied to
certain circumstances regarding how data is transmitted, accessed, used, stored and shared
(Vijayan, 2004). a It is important that the offshore entity takes the necessary steps to ensure
that proper security measures are put in place and enforced.
