The risks Amazon identifies are competition and defines it as
“intense”. They consider competitors who are cross-border
competition and in different industries. The expansion into newer
markets and the reasoning of consumers might not be to thrill with
products or services amazon has to offer. Risks of doing business
internationally include the political standpoint of the mother country
and the country that business is being conducted in.
These risks could affect receivables/revenues by over stating the
amount of business a segment of amazon conducted in foreign
markets. The payables/liabilities should also be easily understated to
the reporting market as to lessen the number of taxes/tariffs due.
An important test would be controls, to ensure that there are multiple
people aware of how the reporting of earnings are documented.
