Decided to look into the comprehensive annual financial reports for my old town and never
realized this was publicly available but it does make sense that townspeople should be allowed to
view the records of town spending. The most recent report that easily pulled up was from 2018,
so I am not sure if this is something they only publish every so often or if that is just what my
search results were getting me.
The main thing noticed was the volume of information. Comparative to the comprehensive
annual financial report of 2018 to the company work encompassing all business, including
international, for being 131 pages, the towns was 291 pages. The sheer number of reports listed
that are not typically found in the corporate reports is so large as well. believe there are a lot of
different things that a town deals with financially than any corporation, as well as shifts in where
funds need to be at any given time causing a change in something quickly. These need
explanations, similar to notes to the financial statements for a business, but need to be much
more detailed.
