Memo
TO: All Employees
FROM: CEO, Myers Industries
DATE: 1/11/2022
SUBJECT: Employee Engagement and Satisfaction Survey Outcome
Following a notable drop in organizational productivity and performance over the last four
consecutive quarters compared to the previous two years, Myers Industries Board and Executive
Team decided to conduct an employee engagement and satisfaction survey. While the outcome of
the study came as a surprise to the members of the board and the top management team; the
findings of the appraisal serve as a reminder that we all need to pull up our socks, reevaluate our
most recent performance and examine our commitment to Myers mission of empowering every
person to achieve greatness. With the survey's outcome showing that as high as 40% of all
employees are either unsatisfied or unengaged, the company is going to implement several
changes to improve organizational leadership and corporate culture over the next two years. The
organizational changes that will be implemented are expected to improve employee workplace
engagement and satisfaction levels. At the end of the corporate transformation period, employee
engagement and satisfaction levels will likely translate to an overall improvement in
organizational performance.
The organizational changes that will be undertaken to improve employee engagement and
satisfaction call upon the board's involvement, the three levels of management, and everyone else
not part of the leadership structure. In the words of John Quincy Adams, "if your actions inspire
others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader." Thus, leaders
will be evaluated on how they can inspire and motivate subordinates to achieve shared goals.
Some of the critical leadership attributes assessed as part of the organizational change process
include interpersonal skills. How a leader engages with employees in the workplace is essential
to understanding their needs and how they can be addressed. An effective leader is expected to be
innovative and knowledgeable in addressing workplace issues. Employees are likely to
experience high engagement and satisfaction levels if their problems are handled quickly and
fairly. For this reason, the leadership and organizational improvement process to be implemented
will involve the training of leaders on decision marking and solving skills. Team leaders are
expected to act as coaches to their team members and ensure that they are given responsibility.
Organizational culture plays a critical role in employee satisfaction and engagement.
Specifically, a corporate culture that supports ethical responsibility has a more significant role to
play in moving the whole organization in the desired direction. To create an enabling
environment where all workers feel respected and valued, it is expected that decisions
undertaken will be honest, binding, and appropriate. The influence also supports the decision to
focus on creating an ethical climate such an environment will have on everyone. Owing to the
role of a character in creating honest and truthful business engagements, training, hiring, and
performance appraisals will incorporate business ethics elements.
Having given an overview of what the transformation process to be undertaken will entail, it's
expected that everyone will corporate and give their maximum support to the process. In the end,
the process is expected to leave everyone better, engaged, and satisfied.
