I went along to one of my sister's basketball games and handed out free
waterbottles with a few people. It was a typical high school basketball game
with plenty of students in attendance.
I chose this event because I was able to do it in my hometown where I know a
lot of people. I also chose it because I know there is a huge need in the high
school.
It seems like the student culture has progessively gotten worse since I left
highschool. It still seems to function the same. I noticed the several different
groups of students who clicque together. They all seemed broken off into
different groups based on the simmilarities. I also noticed a lot of them were
not even paying attention to the game, but rather most of them were on their
cellphones most of the game. I know this had started to become an issue when I
was in school, but it seems like it has progressed even worse now.

The thing that should stay the same is the heart of servanthood. I loved the
easy connection that comes from truly serving someone. If there was
anything that should not be lost is this. I was able to form some really good
relational connections through this.
I feel like God has blessed me with a spiritual gift of serving, so I feel most
blessed when I am serving others. So throughout this event I definitely felt
like God was able to use me to touch a few. However, I was disheartened by
several things I was observing about the student culture.
A specific organization didn't lead this event. It was just me and a few other
people I knew.
I think if I were to do anything differently it would have been to make it more
known. Instead of having a few people pass out waterbottles maybe some
food or snacks. I would like to have some sort of blowout party before/ after
the games. It would also be good to have some sort of church info available
to the students.

Thinking forward to your Campus Ministry Strategy Paper, how might you in the
future, build towards an event like this? One (1) page in length; single spacing.
In the future I think events like these on Campus can be very beneficial to the ministry. Thinking
ahead I would love to have several of these type events for both basketball and football games.
The only problem that can possibly present itself in these types of events is whether or not the
school will allow the church to come in and do these things. I think the slow build up of
relationships with the school by first finding ways to serve the school specifically. (Taking part in
food drives or other school sponsered events) By doing this first one would build relationships
with the school staff, and thus giving more of a chance to perfom events like tailgates, 5th
quarters, etcÖ
I think Campus Ministry should happen in almost a snowball effect. You should start small and
work your way up to these things, and this is exactly what I plant to do.
I think the type of event I participated in is a very effective way to minister to the school. First, it
is free stuff, and everyone loves free stuff (Students, teachers, parents). Secondly, it shows that
you care about the school and the students in the school. Third, It shows your students in the
youth group that you are willing to serve, and thus hopefully inspiring them to serve. And lastly, it
does get the name of the church out there. I know these events are about spreading the Gospel,
but it also important to get the Church's name out there. Not for the Church's sake, but for the
discipleship of those who may receive the Gospel.
Overall, I really hope to have several events like this one I took part of in the future. I find them
very beneficial in many aspects.
