Youth Culture Experience Paper
The general idea of this recording was about a college student attending a high school
football game for classwork. I do agree that it is fairly simple to attempt to complete the
assignment to “check it off the list”, however, as believers and pupils, we should be doing things
like this with intent to discover and flourish. He goes on to discuss the things that he witnessed
during the event such as the presence of liquor, relationships, decorum, and other things. The
assignment was meant to be for the student to provide information about the actions that they
saw in the youth around them.
Starting off, I do agree with his idea of observing all that is going on and being able to
understand how damaged the world is. He explained what he saw going on with multiple
individuals and how non-believers behave. We are living in a brutal, immoral world, and it is
easy to see how people are acting sinful. Although it is simple to judge others while sitting back
and letting these things occur, it is the obligation of believers to be the salt and light of the world
and specifically in these people’s lives. It must not be the inclination of Christians to refuse
relationships with unbelievers just because they are not the same and think differently. Instead,
believers should be accepting and willing to express the love of Christ to them. One other thing
that I concur with is that father figures are vital in people’s, specifically teenagers, lives. Fathers
are meant to be mentors and provide a good standard for their kids. They should be instructing
their kids to respect females and how to care for them in the best way. Finally, one other remark
he explained was when someone’s mother was trying to get one of the cheerleaders to “shake her
booty” inappropriately. It is upsetting to find out about that because mothers are meant to bring
up their children to respect themselves.
In all sincerity, my original thoughts upon viewing the video were that he was acting a bit
negative and critical. However, after looking at it again, I began to realize more and understood
that he was simply explaining precisely what he saw at the game. However, I want to restate that
as believers, we are meant to love the sinner, but hate their sin. It is not the responsibility of
Christians to watch and be judgmental towards people but instead look at the emptiness and walk
in their lives to attempt to plant a seed and witness to those people. Personally, I will sometimes
see the people in my life behaving in a sinful manner and some of them are straight nonbelievers.
This is the reason that the Lord called on us to love all of His children and be a light and set
examples in people’s lives.
