Study Response 3
I will like to start my experience of this book with a quote from Andrew Murray on
prayer “The man who mobilized Christians church to prayer will make the greatest contribution
to world evangelization in history.”1 Prayer is the only source that comes the power for the
manifestation of good works for a Christian and contrary what people think, the experience can
be interesting too and not boring.
1. with the understanding that prayer is not the only thing we do but the first thing we do,
corporately, I will do better by bringing prayer more to the fore front. Even though I am
blessed to be part of a ministry where prayer is taken seriously, I will encourage the
people around me to attend prayer meetings the same way they attend Sunday services, or
even Tuesday Bible study. Leading by example is important so, I will do my best to be
part of the prayer meetings as people will listen more to me when they see me
consistently participating. I have been learning over the course of the week that influence
is achieved one person at a time and spreads out. I have decided to talk about the joy that
is found in seeking Gods face and building intimacy with Him which leads him to open
his hand freely to us. I believe this will equip my team for the work that God has called
us to do and the vision set in front of us. On the other hand, my words will be without
impact if I do not work on my personal prayer life. I have wept several times while
flipping through the chapters of the fresh Encounter book. Going before God to just seek
his face is now my new resolution. My eyes have been opened to see how I have sought
Gods hand more than his face whenever I pray. I want to seek God for revival and not
seek revival from God because when He revives me the people around me will catch the
fire.
2. There will be much more transformational experiences in the body of Christ if there is a
deep investment in prayer. It is essential to engage in worship-based prayer which is a
prayer that is focused on the character of God rather than our needs. When God sees that
we are interested in his presence more that the act of his presence he will show forth his
hand. The emphasis that are placed on events and other things that would attract people to
God should really be diverted towards prayer and Henderson says it better
“While God delights in a praying people and is eager for advancement of His
church, He would not reduce something as pure and distinctive as prayer to the
strategy for human-centered successes.”2
For our Sunday service to experience growth not just physically but also supernaturally,
we must “die on our knees” (Henderson’s Fresh Encounter)
