In Christianity, theology plays a very important role to shape how
Christians think, behave and lead their overall life. Theology can be
defined as the study of God. But this term can also be used for the
purpose of understanding humanity, the concept of sin and salvation, the
church, etc. Badham has defined the term theology as ‘thinking about
God’(Badham, 1996).
In every Christian’s life, theology plays an indispensable role as it guides
him to move closer to the Almighty and follow the righteous path that has
been laid down by Jesus Christ. Since my childhood, I have always been
interested in theology because I consider it to be the pathway that
enables a person to understand the true meaning of Christianity and the
message that has been shared in the Bible as well as the Scripture. I
personally consider myself to be a theologically-informed Christian as I
ensure to study the sources of Christian beliefs such as the Bible and the
Creeds. This approach helps me to stay connected with Christianity at a
personal level. In John’s Gospel, the Lord has stated himself that “This is
eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ
whom You have sent” (John 17:3). Thus it is very important for a Christian
to know and understand God. Only by knowing Him one can understand
the message that he has shared with humanity about leading a righteous,
sincere and honest life. I try to follow the Christian principles that I have
learned, in every walks of life. It guides me to make the right decisions
and doing good for others.
In the current times, there exist a diverse range of distractions that could
increase the distance between a Christian and Jesus Christ. I try to stay
away from these distractions and temptations so that I can lead my life as
a true and faithful Christian (Melé & Fontrodona, 2017). Theology has
helped me to gain a detailed insight into Christian ethics. Christian ethics
which is commonly referred to as moral theology focuses on building
moral character. The detailed insight into Christian ethics has always
helped me to take inspiration from Christian sculptures and philosophy. It
has motivated me to stay true to myself as well as to the Almighty. I
believe that the Christian ethics has played a vital role in my life as it has
helped me to lead a virtuous and honest life.
