According to the Bible, we are all made in the image of God. This Bible shows us this in
Genesis 1:26-27,
Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule
over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,
[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” 27 So God created mankind in
his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them
(Genesis 1:26-27 New International Version).
As a Christians and a believer that the Bible is true, this belief should impact my everyday life.
This puts great value on human life. We are not created the same as animals. This also means I
should treat other people with great respect and honor. Not one man is above or below another
because we were all created in God’s image. A lot of people misunderstand what it means to be
created in the image of God. Some people believe that this just means that we are creative,
sentient, knowing right from wrong, etc. However this is not the case, even though we are all
created equally and made in God’s image, we all have unique gifts and talents. A lot of people
don’t comprehend this and thus don’t chose the correct vocation effectively. This is important to
understand so you don’t miss your calling. I believe that God has blessed me with listening to
people and understanding them. Since I am a believer that the Bible is the word of God, I should
incorporate this believe that I am made in Gods image and my skills in my chosen vocation for
2
life. That is why I have chosen counseling as my vocation of choice after college. Since people
3
are made in God’s image I would like to help people with their problems and help them
remember that we were made in God’s image. I believe it is important to help each other
because of this. It is shown in Genesis 9:6 how God doesn’t want any harm coming to man,
"Whoever sheds man's blood, By man his blood shall be shed, For in the image of God He made
man” (Genesis 9:6 New International Translation). This verse shows that God wants man
protected since man represents himself. I believe that if God doesn’t want man being harmed it
would then make sense that he would want him helped instead.
Although we were made in God’s image, we still fall short of the glory of God (Romans
3:23 New international Version). This is because of the fall that happened in the Garden of Eden.
Man disobeyed God and thus sin was brought into this world and distorted the image of God in
man. That’s why as a counselor I hope to help show people how mankind is suppose to act and
how we are made in Gods image. I would also help guide people and how them what following
God really looks like. Although it’s easy to follow this belief of treating man as if they were
created in the image of God as a counselor, it is possible to do this in any vocation. Even if you
have a job that doesn’t deal directly with counseling or helping others you can still respect and
treat your coworkers well. You could show them Bible versus and also show them with your life
how God values human life. Even simple acts of showing people respect can go a very long way.
We are all made in the image of God, this means that we are all valued and loved by God.
