Short Reflection Paper 1
I never learned anything about theology in my childhood but I always heard that word
and topic in church and in bible study but to me it was always another Christian term that just
came to me. I never gave it thought that it might have an impact to my life and how it would
affect me when I came to a Christian university. My father is a pastor and a missionary who
studied theology during college for his degree but he always told me many topics of theology
that I never understood until I started taking this course. Reading about different types of
theology including systematic and contemporary in (Introducing Christian Doctrine, by Millard
J, Erickson.) helped me open my eyes to understanding theology in a personal view. I think that
theology especially in this course can help me learn not just about the study of Christian
theology but for the evidence and explanations why Christianity is right and different than other
religions that have gone beyond the normal and challenged some religions or have a deeper
understanding than most religions offer. Before I took this course, a professor in my old Bible
class told me the difference between Christianity and other religions in that with our God, he sent
his one and only son to earth and died for our sins. However, Christianity is the one religion
where it is not a system of rules and expectations but we have a personal relationship with God
and that we had hurt ourselves with our relationship with him with sin but it did not separate us
from Him but made His love for us stronger. This is the one thing I always found Christianity so
fascinating before coming to Liberty and truly learning and reading my textbook about theology
in that our study for the doctrine shows us more than an understanding of Christianity and
finding the

evidence to help understand and truly believe in the Bible and everything Christianity teaches.
That is what I hope to learn in this class, to be open and fully learn everything there is to believe
in Christianity more than I do now and the desire to understand why God loves us so much.
