Spiritual Gifts of the body of Christ!
The body of Christ has an important role on the earth and that is to do the will and the work of
the father in heaven. It is important to understand that each of us must operate in at least one
of the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit thru the indwelling of the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
Theological Definition
In the article “The Gifts of the Spirit” written by Kenneth Boa introduces the gifts of the spirit
as such; “God has given each believer a combination of opportunities and gifts that is
perfectly suited to his or her situation in life. Every Christian is really a minister with a unique
contribution to make to the body of Christ. The central thrust of your ministry depends on the
spiritual gifts you have received.” (4) In other words, spiritual gifts are from God to his
followers so that his will may be done.
Biblical Foundation
It is also important to discuss the biblical foundation for this teaching, according to the
article “What are spiritual gifts?” by Mary Fairchild, the types of spiritual gifts can be found
in Romans 12:6-8; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11, 28-31; Ephesians 4:7-13; 1 Peter 4:10; she further
explains the different gifts detailing each one in turn. For example Apostil, Profit, Pastor, and
teacher just to name a few, and the article explains the manifest gifts that show the power of
God. A few of these gifts are Utterance, Prophecy, Power, Revelation, Speaking in Tongues,
Interpretation of Tongues, Faith, Healing, Miracles, Word of Wisdom, Word of Knowledge,
and the Discerning of Spirits.(5)
Practical Application

It is also important to know what the practical applications of these gifts are in a Christian
student’s life. In the article “Direction for finding your spiritual gifts” by David Francis, the
idea is presented that the practical application is to perform a function within the body of
Christ so that the body of Christ can be built up and made stronger. The idea is also presented
that each person’s gift should be used in a way that benefits the body of Christ. (2)
The Baptism of the Holy Spirit!
The next important topic that should be discussed in length is the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
One of the reasons this should be discussed is the fact that the Holy Spirit is the third part of
the trinity and the giver of spiritual gifts, as well as the fact that a believer in Christ is guided
by the Holy Spirit.
Theological Definition
In the article “The Baptism of the Holy Spirit” Mary Fairchild said "Baptism in the Holy
Spirit" is understood to be a second baptism, "in fire" or "power," spoken of by Jesus in Acts
1:8. Specifically, it refers to the experience of believers on the Day of Pentecost described in
the book of Acts (Acts 2:4). The following verses provide evidence that the Baptism in the
Holy Spirit is a distinct and separate experience from the indwelling of the Holy Spirit that
occurs at salvation: John 7:37-39; Acts 2:37-38; Acts 8:15-16; Acts 10:44-47.” (1)
Biblical Foundation
The biblical foundation for the baptism of the Holy Spirit is found in acts Chapter 2:14-21
which says “14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the
crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen

carefully to what I say. 15 These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the
morning! 16 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: 17 “‘in the last days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young
men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. 18 Even on my servants, both men and
women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. 19 I will show
wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of
smoke. 20 The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the
great and glorious day of the Lord. 21 And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will
be saved.”(3)
Practical Application
The practical application of for the baptism of the Holy Spirit comes from Luke 24:49
which is the statements of Jesus where he tells his disciples to stay and wait till they have
been clothed with power from on high to do the work they had been called to do. (3)
Conclusion
As a final thought without the baptism of the Holy Spirit, we as Christians would not be
equipped to do the work and the will of God the father. Furthermore, without the baptism of
the Holy Spirit, we would not have the gifts of the spirit which is what is used by members of
the body of Christ to do his will. If we do not have what we need to do his will the Gospel of
Jesus Christ would be brought to no one and no lives would be changed for the better.
