Biblical Metanarrative Essay
07/08/2021
The Bible is many short stories put together to tell one big story of the four parts. The
four parts are the creation, the fall, the redemption, and the new creation. Creation is God’s act of
bringing the uniserve into a being. The fall is mainly about transitions in the first man or woman.
The redemption is the act of correcting a wrong, God forgives us for a lot throughout our lives.
The new creation is all about the new testament, which is related to the new life and new man.
The Bible’s metanarrative is how we react to God’s plan for humanity. The Bible isn't all about
the short stories, it's about the lessons for us to reflect on, and it's also a manual for Christians to
live their lives. The Bible also has many examples of God’s Grace, and his love, to me that
shows how much God loves and cares for us.
The Biblical Metanarrative is mainly about what stories are put in the Bible, and what
lessons you can learn from them. There are so many stories in the Bible, over many different life
spans of time, genres, place and audience. The metanarrative is seeing how all those stories are
put together. The four parts of the metanarrative are the creation, the fall, the redemption, and the
new creation, which tells us who God is. The metanarrative is also about how they connected the
Bible and the books of the Bible. There really is no one author of the Bible, there are multiple.
The creation is where it all began, “In the beginning God created the Heavens and the Earth.”
(Genesis 1:1, KJV). God created the most he could as a man. Next was the fall when Adam and
Eve messed up in the garden. Even though it was their choice, it made the man fall for the man.
God is an honorable person but also still just God. He did give us a second chance with his son
Jesus Christ. This would be considered redemption, the way to fix a wrong. He cared for his
people so much that he left his son to die for our sins. Finally, the new creation where God
restores mankind and the world around us.
One of the topics I chose to write about was Mercy. Mercy is love that responds to human
need in an unexpected or unmerited way, also another word for forgiveness. The Bible has many
different stories as stated before, this makes many different outcomes. The creation, fall,
redemption and new creation are all different in these stories. Throughout all the books, we can
clearly see that God has so much mercy and grace. God shows us an example of his mercy, with
his saving Noah and his family from the flood. Not many people would help people in a flood
nowadays, it takes a lot of strength and patience to help someone in need. Also he shows us his
mercy by forgiving a man to be saved after he fell and made a mistake in the garden. The thing
that shows God’s mercy the best is him leaving his son to save us. We know we didn't deserve
that, he gave up someone close to him to protect us and this shows how much we meant to God.
His redemption also shows his mercy, when he spared us mercy by giving us clothes and
banishing us from the garden. He still tried to help us redeem ourselves after we dishonored him.
The last way he showed his mercy was death. Through this, we learned that if we trust God he
will continue to bring new lives and the ones who die will live forever in heaven. God has shown
us mercy in many ways.
Grace is the help given to us by God, it is not only given when we need it or even deserve
it. God also has a lot of grace shown in all the stories of the Bible. This also shows the Bible
metanarrative. God shows us his grace when he allows his creation to live, even though there
were some disobeying his beliefs. Most people don’t forgive as easily as God did with his people
disobeying his only rule. We also saw his grace after the fall, and they made a mistake and
realized their clothes were off, he then handed us clothes, even though we messed up and
disobeyed him. The fact that he helped us after we sinned, shows he cares and wants us to learn
from our mistakes. The redemption shows his grace by him talking to us and reasoning with us
before Christ comes along. Lastly, he shows his grace by new creation, we have accepted him
and also allowed him to grow a new creation of him throughout the years. God’s grace is shown
in every story in the Bible, and the way we read it and share it to others, makes it grow. Leaving
your work in other people’s hands also shows his grace, not many people would have his son
taken from him to help grow the world more. The bible does an amazing job in showing all the
ways God showed his grace and mercy for us and the world. God will forever be an impact in
our lives.
Seeing the metanarrative in the Bible shows us that there are so many different views of
each story written in the Bible. All the different stories, lessons and psalms told in the short
stories of the bible. Also the different authors tell different stories and lessons. The main idea of
the Bible is the way we live our lives, and how God speaks to us in different ways. The four parts
of the story; the creation, the fall, the redemption and the new creation lets us see what God has
to say to us. We also see everything he planned for us and the world, even if some of us don’t
take the time to think about his plan. Metanarrative of the Bible is important to learn and see as
you read the Bible. It will make us understand God more and live life to its fullest. Having a
relationship with God is important to the world in different ways.
