Introduction
Miracles are all throughout the Bible. From Moses parting the Red Sea up to all
the work that Jesus did throughout his ministry; the Bible is full of stories that show the
power God the Father. This power is one way that God shows his love for his people. It
also a way for the Lord to remind his people of his power. It is a way to bring them back
to the Father.
Theological Term and Definition
During an episode of 20/20 a miracle is described as “a theological term. It
comes from the Latin, which means something wonderful to behold, something unex-
pected. So it's basically a theological reality. In other words, that God has intervened in
human affairs.” As Robert Sarno said in his interview a miracle is when the Lord dis-
plays his power and will in our everyday lives. I think that everyone is always very inter-
ested in the miracles. The Lord knew the power that he had and that the miracles were
a great way to show and also remind people of his might. I really like the wording of in-
tervened. I think that takes on another level of involvement. The word intervened shows
how the Lord chooses to be involved in the lives of his people. To me that is just a great
reminder that He truly loves us and choses to make a difference in our lives like that.
Biblical Foundation
When it comes to Biblical evidence of miracles they are all over the Bible. I think
that a lot of people that struggle with belief in Christ can trace at least some of that
doubt to a lack of believe in miracles. One of the verses that I like to use to show even
those miracles can happen today is Hebrews 13:8. The writer of Hebrews, which is
thought to be Paul, says “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever”. I
think it is really important to remember that the Lord has no time constraints. The same
God that gave Moses the power to part the Red Sea is the same God that is living in me
today. Another verse that stands out to me is Jeremiah 32:27, which says “I am the
LORD, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?” I think that is a great voice
to show how the Lord is willing to remind us of his power.
Practical Application
I personally have had experience with miracles that came from the Lord. During
my early high school years I struggled with depression. I was going through the motions
in my faith and putting on a face for everyone around me. During this difficult period in
my life I started to use self injury as a way to cope. I had scars all over my legs. After a
few months I realized how destructive that was for me. I reached out and got help from
several friends. I still carried around those scars as I reminder of the past. I struggled to
forgive myself for how selfish I was during that time. One day at a conference I had a
group of friends pray for me I felt my legs start to become sore. I did not really think
much of it. The next day while I was in the shower I noticed that the scars were gone.
Again the same God that parted the Red Sea is alive inside of me, and he healed my
scars and showed me that it was okay to forgive myself.
Conclusion
I can understand why people now a days struggle with beliefs in miracles. They
are all around us in things like science and medicine. Those things have become tools
that the Lord uses to accomplish his will. It is really easy to put faith in humans. The ad-
vancements that humans have made of the last hundred years, but those advance-
ments are because of the will of God the Father. Nothing on this Earth can be accom-
plished without his will.
