a) Chosen Organization
Smith limited is an organization that deals with the production of meat for both local and international
consumption. The company has acquired more than 300 acres of land to rear animals and established a processing
plant on the farm. The employees of this organization have consistently complained about the low pay they are
compensated for their work. The employees state that they work long hours and the management is reluctant to
provide overtime. The latter is because the management argues that the work performed by employees even in the
late hours is within their job description and hence they should not be compensated. This has brought conflict
between the management and the employees and led to increased labor turnover.
Moreover, the employees mistrust their employer as they feel that they do not have any form of job security. In
the recent past, employees have witnessed their colleagues getting fired for minor mistakes that warrant a warning
and not a termination. Employees have requested the management to renew their contracts however, the
management has promised to do so but keeps postponing. The management has, however, encouraged the
employees to perform their duties and not to worry about the employment contracts. The management rewards
high-performing employees monthly to motivate their colleagues however, they have not done so for the last 3
months. The latter has caused the employees to conclude that the management is concerned about fulfilling their
needs.
b) Target Group
The Smith Limited employees consist of millennials and the older generation. 80 percent of the employees are
male while 20 percent are female. The millennials are mostly in manual labor works where they feed the animals
and participate in slaughtering activities. The older generation employees are in the managerial and supervisory
positions where they oversee the different operations of the organizations. This is because this generation has
extensive experience in the processing industry and is able to provide guidance.
The female employees in the organization mostly from administration services and provide support to their
male counterparts in the manual labor-related departments. Some female employees are also involved in sanitary
cleaning activities to ensure that the organization's facilities are well kept. The female employees also provide
catering services to the other employees by ensuring that all meals are well served and any complaints about the
food consumed are acted upon. The female employees are an essential part of Smith Limited and hence their input
is greatly appreciated.
c) Demographics, Geographies, Psychographics, Lifestyle,
The employees of Smith Limited are well skilled in using modern technology gadgets and have even created a
WhatsApp group where they hold work-related conversations. At work, employees are provided with tablets that
they are required to record their daily operations and data of the quantities of food consumed by animals and the
quantity of meat packaged in an hour. The management of Smith Limited has digitized its operations and
thoroughly trained all employees on the usage of the company software systems.
Moreover, the employees of Smith Limited are a close-knit family that holds communal dinners once a month.
The dinners are meant to ensure that any conflicts between employees are solved without the intervention of the
higher management. The dinners have also encouraged genuine friendships among the employees which means
that they are a team working towards achieving the set organizational goals. The unity of the employees has
reduced any conflicts that may arise among them and people in need are supported and encouraged for better
performance.
d) Story and Theme
The management of Smith Limited plays an important role in encouraging the employees to move in the same
direction. As highlighted earlier the management needs to have a sit down with the employees to talk about the
existing conflicts. The management should be willing to listen to the reasons presented by employees on why they
are viable for overtime. The management can agree on the overtime to be paid per hour and not to be a fixed
amount. Resolving this conflict will be important in making the employees understand that their needs are valued.
The management needs to provide employees with a document that proves that they work in the organization.
The employees should be made to understand that the lack of a contract does not mean that their work is not
recognized. The management should find a way of providing their employees with any document that affirms their
job security. Dealing with the conflicts that are in existence in an organization makes the employees understand
that I am there to help them achieve their set standards. I will also have an in-depth discussion with the
management and state to them the impact of their ignorance on the employees' needs. I will encourage the
management to be in contact with the employees and address any issues that arise in the shortest time possible to
avoid any adverse consequences that arise.
