HIPAA and Why Is It Important
The HIPAA Privacy Rule is where the national standards are established to protect
individuals' medical records and other personal health information (Rule, HIPAA Privacy).
Besides, this Rule also applies to health care clearinghouses, health plans, and healthcare
providers responsible for conducting certain electronic health care transactions. The HIPAA
Privacy Rule appropriate protections for the privacy of personal health information and set
conditions and limits on the disclosure and uses that may be made of such patient information
without the consent of the patients (Rule, HIPAA Privacy). Besides, the Rule also provides the
patients with the right to their health information, such as examining and obtaining their health
records copy and requesting a correction.
HIPAA is important for several countless reasons. According to Rule, HIPAA Privacy,
the major reason this Rule is considered important is its aim to ensure confidentiality and
privacy. Besides, it is also important as it allows patients to have access to their health care data
and also helps in improving data systems while also reducing fraudulent activities. Data security
is the core of everything here. HIPAA plays a significant role in healthcare organizations by
providing the framework that safeguards data by restricting access to unauthorized persons
(Rule, HIPAA Privacy). For any organization dealing with PHI to be considered compliant, they
must have a network, physical, and process security measures.

Implementing a HIPAA privacy platform, in my opinion, is not cheap. HIPAA
enforcement is a significant and organization-wide effort for many businesses. The procedure
necessitates extensive preparation, expertise, and workforce, all of which can be very costly. As
a result, impacted organizations must assess implementation decisions while keeping a close eye
on their financial capability.
