Group Reflection 1
Group work is something that is incorporated all throughout and individual’s life.
Starting as young as group projects in school all the way to group projects in the workplace.
An ideal group or team is one that works together yet has separate roles that highlight an
individual’s strength. Everyone has different strengths and weakness and it is vital to utilize
each person’s strength. For example, in class today we let the most artistic person be the
drawer. We all worked together to communicate to them what to draw, but we utilized their
strength that the other group members did not have.
Groups problem solve by brainstorming and listening to each individual’s ideas. This
creates a comfortable environment where an individual is free to express their opinions and
allows other group members to bounce off those ideas to eventually come up with the best
solution. The common saying goes, “two heads are better than one,” and that is especially
true in group problem solving.
Groups resolve conflict by being open with other group members how they are feeling. If
an individual does not speak up when they feel tension with another group member, then that
tension only grows into a bigger problem. By being open about an issue from the start, it
allows the group to address it and fix it before it grows.
I do enjoy group work. I enjoy being social and being around other people. I believe that
group work is beneficial because someone else might be better at something than I am and
can help the project excel in that area better than I ever could. Working together towards a
common goal rather than working alone allows you to work smarter. Group work is
something that will be prevalent the rest of your life so learning to enjoy and embrace it now
will be beneficial in the long run.
Poor experiences in group work primarily stems from each individual not doing their fair
share of work in the project. If someone slacks off on their part, that requires someone else to
make that up. That puts more work and stress on that individual because they now have their
part to do as well as someone else’s part to do. This also creates tension in the group because
other group members will become annoyed with the member that is slacking off.
Good experiences in group work is when all group members do their part with a good
attitude and to the best of their abilities. This creates a happy work environment for everyone
in the group as well as produces the best end result. Team work makes the dream work!
