Piracy is the illegal copying or copyright infringement that has ruined many artists in their short
term and long-term careers. To discourage others of coping and sharing I would share an
example as of such, which can be very broad. But I work hard every day for the things I want
and need. I work hard to take care of my son so that he may have everything that he needs to
aspire. For someone to come into my home and steal all of my hard earning would be unlawful
or frowned upon. These artists just like us are doing what they love and trying to make
something for themselves and their family. They only truly make it by the love of their fans and
those buying the music.
Yes, the coping and sharing of music with others without paying for it is stealing. Nowadays
there are many ways to share music the legal way while paying for it under the same account
while sharing it. According to Straubhaar, LaRose, & Davenport (2017), “Starving artists
livelihoods have been ruined by illegal downloading.”
The Bible explains to us very clearly that we should not steal. It is also a part of the ten
commandments as thou shall not steal. Ephesians 4:28 Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let
him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with
anyone in need. We are not to steal but work hard for all of earning the right way. God placed us
all here to build each other up and not tear one another down. Efforts made to stop the activity of
piracy should be not to do it yourself and share with family and friends via social media that it’s
not okay to steal. The punishment should be large fines including up to jail time depending on
the severity of the crime.
1.Piracy in the music industry is a serious problem. How might you discourage the copying and
sharing of music with others? Is it stealing? If so, what efforts could be made to stop the activity
and what punishment should there be for this?
2. How has social media contributed to the broad distribution of some musicians' work?
Contrast the way a new musician or songwriter may get his music out today versus the methods
musicians and songwriters used in the past.
Because there are many outlets on social media today it can be many routes that an artist can take
to get their music heard. Artist like Beyoncé have learned to promote their music through social
media and distribute it online without the benefit of radio airplay (Straubhaar, LaRose, &
Davenport, 2017).
A new musician or songwriter may get their music out by creating their own YouTube Channel
and then sharing or getting others to share on the social media page. Social media is like a never-
ending chain. Once it’s out there, no matter the file, people share things over and over and also
copy and save media to their storage.
3. Even though there are many options for listening to music, news and talk programs, discuss
the reasons radio still thrives today.

According to Straubhaar, LaRose, & Davenport (2017), “Broadcast radio continues as an
enjoyable and even indispensable medium for millions of listeners”. Radio still thrives today
mainly because of the live stream that you can get. Many listeners like to feel close to the singer
or artist and enjoy listening to them talk personally. It a sense of getting to know the person or
group you already love. Its almost the same reason that many still enjoy seeing and hearing their
favorite artist in concert.
