1.
Television’s <Golden Age,=was a tribute to quality dramas such as Rod Serling’s Twilight
Zone series.(Straubhaar, LaRose, & Davenport, 2016). Families and friends would gather
around the television to watch together and later discuss throughout the week. Important
life topics like race, gender and fear of terrorism were discussed amongst friends.
Although only having very few selection of networks to choose from in the <Golden
Age=, it seems as if people’s lives would revolve around television, in a similar way that
people do today. Although much has changed today such as having television shows
specific to certain age groups, cultural backgrounds, beliefs, political views. I do believe
that we still have <golden= moments in television today, with the way we are able to
reach a larger, more diverse group of people. Continuing to educate the nation through
various news networks, people are able to keep updated with what is taking place in our
government and in our nation. I believe that we are currently living in the second Golden
Age, with hundreds of scripted series available across broadcast, cable, and streaming
television outlets.( Straubhaar, LaRose, & Davenport, 2016)
2. The internet continues to make life more convenient, providing us with so much
information all at our fingertips. No longer having to wait on someone to provide
information on how to get something done, things like DIY projects have surfaced and
have been saving people a lot of money. The way that it could be detrimental to us is
having so much information thrown at you, many don’t stop to question if the

information is credible, creating the problem of being misinformed or lacking knowledge
from not properly researching information that is being given.
3. After watching Zalaznick’s presentation "The Conscience of TV" 6 years ago, I have
been able to identify the clear trends between media content, economics, and social
media trends. Social media will always continue to change as the years go by in its
attempt to stay relevant to its users. Television is constantly trying to provoke some
strong emotions from its viewers usually by glamourising violent behaviors, and feeding
its viewers a false fulfillment influencing America into the state it is in now. Things that
were once seen as violent are not a form of entertainment. These entertainments on
television have caused America to remain distracted enough that many people are
missing out on the valuable moments in life that are only lived through interaction and
conversing with others around you.
