Event Proposal
The event that I have proposed is a Testimony Night and drama performance for our
youth group. The event will summarize our 10-day mission trip in Tulsa Oklahoma from June
20th to June 30th. In this, the students will each share their testimonies as well as perform a 20-
minute drama that was done every evening of the mission trip. The event will consist of both
students in attendance as well as the congregation. The intention of the event will be to promote
both our youth group as well as missions within the church. As a result of the mission trip, over
100 people across Oklahoma accepted Jesus Christ and often adults away from youth aren’t
aware of what God is doing with the students. The event will also act as a financial promotion for
missions as a love offering will be taken up following the service.
Rationale
The purpose of this evening is to promote the First Baptist Church youth group as well as
show the church body what God is doing through cross-cultural missions. The mission trip being
promoted was accomplished in several neighborhoods throughout Tulsa that were predominantly
Spanish speaking and/or impoverished. In many cases, the Gospel was shared along with a
partnering clothing closet and food pantry. Unfortunately, with our large church, it can be easy
for the youth group to be lost or isolated in their own world while your standard Sunday
attendees are unaware of God’s presence within the student body. With the share night, it will
give students the opportunity to bear their testimonies to audiences they’ve never spoken to
before. The result of this rationale will be both a more informed congregation, inspired
individuals, and an offering collected so that next year’s cross-cultural trip will be financially
covered.
Strategic Plan
Strategically, my first step was to confirm with students and adult volunteer leaders that
they would be willing to move Wednesday night services from the youth theater to the adult
sanctuary. Once all participants were committed to the night, I touched base with the other
ministers (lead pastor, other youth pastor, communications director) to make sure they were on
the same page. The lead pastor, Matt Taylor, confirmed that he loved the idea and my fellow
youth pastor, Luke Winfrey, was also bought into it. Finally, I confirmed with our
communications director Candy Seibert that it was something she could promote on social media
as well as in the bulletin. As a result of this, a flyer was created and promoted on Facebook,
Instagram, Twitter, and in the bulletin. We were also able to do a radio interview at our local
radio station that was aired during the community calendar.
Promotional Strategy
The first step into promoting the event was to announce it on Sunday morning. For our
church service, we have two separate services which equal out to around 1,000 congregants’
total. Luke and I (the other youth pastor and the one I do announcements with) promoted it on
Sunday, July 4th and our Associate Pastor shared it from the pulpit while we were in Oklahoma
on Sunday, June 27th. Next, we purchased ad space on both Facebook and Instagram to push the
flyer on the “promoted” section of both platforms. This intertwined with promoting the flyer in
the church bulletin as well as in the Sunday School Newsletter for the end of June. Finally, I did
a brief radio interview with the News Director at Regional Radio KJEL 103.7FM. This interview
was aired as a part of the radio station’s Community Calendar that highlights community events
throughout the town. Finally, the students that plan on sharing Wednesday night were encouraged
to each pick three different people who were not church attenders and invite them to it. The

outline of the evening was created to cater to both church members as well as those who had
never been. For example, the students were encouraged to prepare their testimony in a way that it
would impact both the long time Christian as well as the person who had never heard the story of
Jesus Christ before.
Assessment Model
When analyzing the event, I will assess some basic questions that will help determine the
success of the night. Notably, what went well and what we could improve on for future Cross-
Cultural share nights. Specifying some of the key questions:
-What were some positive takeaways from the event?
-What were some things that could use improvement?
-Being that most students are sharing their testimonies for the first time, who thrived and who
struggled?
-How did the drama impact those who viewed it? Were there any proactive conversations started
following the event based off the drama?
-What was the main accomplishment of the evening? Was the event edifying? Were there any
salvations that came forward during the invitation and altar call? How much money was raised
for the love offering?
Each of these questions were printed out and given to students/volunteer leaders on
Monday to pray about. Next Wednesday when the students are back into their normal youth
group, we will have a debriefing period where each question is exhausted, and the students will
be allowed to share their candid thoughts and feelings. The goal of this is not to be overly critical
but to push each student towards constant improvement. The biggest possible success of the
evening will be that the Holy Spirit will light a fire in each student; especially those who have
previously been timid about sharing their personal testimonies. As their youth pastor, I will ensure
that each student is personally followed up with behind closed doors so I can begin a spiritual
inventory with them based off the share night.
Evaluation Method
As previously mentioned, my goal following the event will be to follow up with the
students both collectively as well as individually. As a group, this will be next Wednesday, July
14th in the youth theater. Individually, I will choose a couple of students each week to contact
between now and the end of the summer. Some of the questions I intend to ask them may seem
redundant from previous steps but will serve as an essential part of the evaluation time.
-How did the Holy Spirit impact you while sharing? Were there any struggles that you had? If so,
how can you combat them for future reference? (For example, nerves in front of large crowds)
-What is one thing you would do the same and one thing you would do differently?
-Did you feel you were well prepared to share? How did you do with time constraints (each
student is encouraged to keep their testimony between 1-3 minutes so that all students can
share)
-Since sharing, do you feel more encouraged or more discouraged about sharing your testimony? -
Did the drama allow you to have easier gospel-oriented conversations?
-What conversations did you have following the event? With whom?
My main priority in this section is to challenge the students as well as give them positive
thing to reflect on. Even for the students who struggle the most or leave discouraged, I want
them to leave with a silver lining and for them to know that their testimonies are all precious in
the eyes of The Lord. Moreover, I want to reiterate and remind them that even the seemingly
smallest testimony can have a gigantic impact on the most unlikely attendee. For example, David
didn’t use a gigantic cannon to defeat the giant Goliath; he used a small stone. Likewise, students
will be encouraged that we don’t always need a gigantic cannon to lead someone to Jesus;
sometimes it’s a small testimony.
