FINAL EXAM ESSAY QUESTIONS
For your Final Exam, you will be required to answer 2 of the following 3 essay questions.
On the exam, the questions will be chosen at random, so it is wise to prepare for all 3
questions. Each essay question must be completed within 400–600 words and include a
word count at the end.
1. In the section titled “Step 3: Stimulate Felt Need” in Chapter 9 of The Seven Laws
of the Learner, the author writes: “The best starting place for all teaching is the
surface felt need of the students.” Do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Explain your answer in at least 2 fully developed paragraphs. Be sure to
incorporate support from Scripture, as well as the context surrounding the
author’s statement.
2. In the section titled “Maxim 5” in Chapter 11 of The Seven Laws of the Learner,
the author writes: “Equipping should focus more intensely on the most
committed.” Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Explain your answer
in at least 2 fully developed paragraphs. Incorporate support from Scripture, as
well as the context surrounding the author’s statement.
I completely agree with Wilkinson’s statement in Maxim 5 of Chapter 11.
Equipping a few students can go a long way. We even witness this all throughout
the Bible. If you look at the examples of equipping in the Bible you will not be
disappointed. Almost every book has one or more examples of God equipping His
chosen people. From Genesis 6 when God equips Noah with the knowledge of the
flood and gives him instructions on how to save all of the animals and his family
to the New Testament where Jesus equipped His disciples. The New Testament,
especially, reminds me that a little bit goes a long way. The equipping of the right
students can change the world. Outside of the Bible, the Lord equips His
followers everyday to promote change in the world but He is always careful as to
whom He will equip.
Equipping, just like all of the other teaching methods that Wilkinson teaches
will require extra work and attention on the teacher and student part. Personally I
think that all the extra effort and attention that is required for this can turn a lot of
teachers away from this. Often, in public schools, this isn’t possible. There’s a
certain distance that most teachers keep from the massive horde of students that
they teach everyday. As Wilkinson explains throughout his book, it all starts with
the teacher. If the teacher is positive and putting effort into his/her lesson plan. In
order for a teacher to identify the the most committed students the teacher must
first be invested in his/her classroom and students. Students essentially will thrive
off of the teacher when it comes to each lesson. As long as the teacher is doing the
part then the students that are most committed will outshine the rest.
3. In at least 2 fully developed paragraphs, explain how you would address the
following situation, utilizing the principles and methods of Wilkinson’s “Law of
Revival” (Chapters 13–14 of The Seven Laws of the Learner).
